WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader
Upgrades will give you a boost to certain stats. Each upgrade boosts the level of an item by 3. A random substat is also boosted alongside each upgrade.
The upgraded gear is usually more valuable, unless the item has a low requirement by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a high variance in stats (like the eth Titan weapons). Upgrades aren't as valuable for the latter because of the requirement to roll the perfect version.
Recycle Points
The item upgrader lets players upgrade their gear by offering the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of armor or weapon. The item used to upgrade the item is discarded and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be used to create enchantments.
You can upgrade your gear anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To keep your gear up-to-date it is recommended that you visit the upgrader each couple of weeks.
The cost of upgrading will be based on the current level of the gear being upgraded however, they will always be cheaper than purchasing new gear from other sources. Upgrades such as upgrading a Benthic chest to 385 ilvl will cost you 20 recycle points. If you purchase a similar item, it will cost you 105.
Valorstones
Upgrades are items that are used to improve the quality of weapons and tools, armor and accessories. They are purchased by players through item upgrader NPCs in exchange for different currencies, and can be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be used on any weapon, tool, or armor. The button will display a preview of an item's next level of upgrade, when there are enough materials.
The upgrade cost depends on the slot of the item and the current item level, with weapons costing more than gloves or bracers, for example. Each step costs 15 Flightstones and a few crests, with certain upgrades offering discounts to reduce the cost of the Flightstones or crests that are used. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain amount, it can be downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower price.
Upgraders for items can be found in many places including the main island, as well as a few outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade discount and the chance to get a brand new upgrade recipe. The upgrade discount increases as more items are upgraded. It can be increased by having players finish certain achievements or quests.
Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader at the beginning, unlike Cromwell from Baldur's Gate II. Instead the NPCs that are available to help with upgrades require various methods, which is both an improvement but also a drawback.
In Season 3 the upgrade system was altered a bit, with numerous new features added. When a player has an upgrade to a certain level for an item in an armor slot, upgrading additional items to that same item level will cost less even if they are part of another set of gear.
The discount applies to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed to upgrade is reduced also, but is only available once certain milestones are reached.
Crests
When it comes to upgrading gear in WoW players have a couple of options. Flightstones are a currency that is available to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more specific and are used for specific upgrades to the level of an item. Crests are the main component of the Dragonflight gear progression system, which was introduced in 10.1, and come in four ranks.
First, you should know that Crests are only available to equipment that is with a certain rank. Each rank comes with distinct upgrade paths. The simplest and most straightforward upgrade process costs just 15 crests while the most complicated can require as much as 20 crests depending on the kind of gear that is being upgraded.
Players can earn crests by finishing content at the appropriate level, which involves walking around and engaging in outdoor activities for lower-tier gear, raids or dungeons of any difficulty for higher-tier items or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses or dungeons for endgame gear. These crests are then exchanged with an item upgrader such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to upgrade the item in the proper steps and routes.
The use of these currencies isn't too difficult, but the system does introduce some changes to the overall upgrade process. For example, once an item reaches the highest level of upgrading for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic), it will no longer require Flightstones to be upgraded. upgrade item is designed to allow players to upgrade their gear up to the highest possible ilvl on all their characters, instead of relying only on seasonal loot.
It's also crucial to choose crests with care, since they only have one use. It's best to put your Whelpling-rank Crests on the highest-quality gear that you can find and save Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next round of upgrades. This is especially true for items such as rings and trinkets that occupy several slots. The discount on the account will only be applicable if all slots on the character are filled with high-quality gear.
