Guild Wars 2 Item Upgrade
The statistics of an item are enhanced by upgrading it, which is also known as "upping". Each upgrade increment increases a stat linearly.
Players can recycle up to six items at once to gain a level gauge for each of the upgraded components. The cost of recycling items scales with their rarity and item level.
Upgrade components
In Guild Wars 2, an item upgrade is a way to boost the stats of your weapon and armor. This can be accomplished by a number of means that include using upgrade components and upgrading an item's mark level or rarity. Many items can also be reforged to increase their value.
Upgradable items can be found throughout the game, both within the world and as rewards for missions. Players can also craft them. Upgrade components are the primary method to upgrade equipment. These are the items that can slot into equipment. Most equipment has slots for upgrading and some require a specific level of upgrade. Certain upgrade components offer specific bonuses while others provide general bonuses.
There are several types of upgrade components in the game, such as universal upgrades, inscriptions and jewels. The universal upgrades, such as gemstones and enchantments can be placed on any kind of equipment and offer lower bonuses than upgrades for specific equipment. Glyphs are only available in gathering tools. They offer a range of bonuses, ranging from increasing the speed at which an item gathers to supplying additional crafting materials.
Choose the item from your inventory, then open the Upgrade window. The preview will be displayed on the right-hand side of the screen. It will display the expected stats after the upgrade. The Upgrade button at the bottom will read Blocked if you don't have enough of either.
The number of upgrade components required for a specific item can be seen in the upper-right corner of the window for upgrading. The price of an upgrade increases as the level and rarity of the item. However you can cut down on this cost by purchasing upgrades from a vendor or trading them with other players.
Many weapons can be improved with a prefix, such as a rune or an insignia, and others can be improved with the suffix. These upgrades change the name of the item and add an adjective, like 'Radiant' or 'Minor Vigor. There are some exceptions, however. the noninscribable wands, foci and shields from the Prophecies and Factions campaigns, which are not upgradeable with any kinds of mods.
Glyphs
Glyphs are an effective instrument for communicating visual information. They move to draw the attention of the viewer and entice curiosity. The animation of glyphs resembles the body language, making them more effective in communicating a linguistic barrier-crossing message. Glyphs also evoke a sense of familiarity in the brain, thereby increasing retention of the message.
Each glyph can increase a stat's value by a certain range. This is shown on the item's page when you open it in the Glyph Storage. This range is the maximum value that a glyph can improve a stat by and not the amount it will actually increase it by. The actual value of the glyph is determined by the tier and the quality of the product you are in awe of it.
The majority of upgrade components installed into items cannot be removed or replaced without dismantling them except for legendary equipment and upgrades. If, however, item upgrading have a rune or glyph that hasn't yet been added to your equipment, you can transfer it to a different piece gear by using the upgrade Glyphs context menu within the Glyphs panel. This will create a Glyph Set that includes the selected glyph.
You can take out a glyph by using the Black Lion Salvage Kit, or an Ascended Salvage tool. The item where the glyph is located will be destroyed, however the upgraded item can be retrieved using the glyph shards.
If you take an item off after adding a glyph, the shards of that glyph will disappear. You can also add a glyph on your equipment to provide an additional benefit. Deferred Damage, for example, can store damage and be distributed slowly to the wearer rather than all at once. This is beneficial for players who are taking lots of damage from enemies however do not want to be overwhelmed.
Reroll tokens
Reroll tokens can be used to alter the affixes that are placed on equipment and weapons. They can be obtained from a variety of sources, including mysterious boxes, rare drops from skulled monsters or by killing bosses. Each reroll gives the player a random affix that is usually better than what they had before. Reroll tokens can be used to boost the weapon's stats to increase damage or bonuses.
Rerolled items don't appear on the menu for upgrade options, however they can still be upgraded. When you press the "upgrade button", you can recycle these rerolled items. This will change the design of the item's window and let up to six items be selected for recycling. The level gauge is increased by recycling an item. The amount is determined by the item's rarity as well as its level, therefore items with higher levels are more valuable to recycle than lower level ones.
In addition to tokens for rerolls, players can make use of Star Remnants and Reroll Tokens to reroll the traits of a weapon in an upgraded unit. Rerolls roll the % chance of a weapon trait. If it rolls higher, the weapon will be upgraded. If it rolls lower, it remains unchanged. Weapons can be repeatedly rolled up to three times.
Rerolls are a great option to upgrade an item, but players must be aware that it can reduce the total ilvl of the weapon based on the number of rerolls used in order to increase the weapon to its ultimate ilvl. This effect is most evident on rings and Diadems, because they are the only options to increase the ilvl.
Some players have complained that the reroll system is expensive. It would be fairer to allow people to pay for it with cash or food items which would allow players to make changes to their builds without spending too much time. However, paid rerolls are not something the developers want to incorporate at this point in the game's development. Instead, they're planning add an ability to change races in the future.
Leveling
There are many ways to increase the level of an item upgrade. The first method of leveling up an item upgrade is to increase the upgrade amount. This increases the value of upgrading the stat. The alternative is to increase the effect of the upgrade, which can increase damage or healing for a stat. Finally you have the option to upgrade the base item to a higher upgrade type. Once this is done the new item will keep its iLevel but it will benefit from the upgrade effects of the upgraded item type.
When upgrading your items it is essential to keep in mind that upgrades are random. In the majority of cases, a better roll is determined by glyphs. However there are occasions where a higher or more special roll may occur. In addition the iLevel of the upgrade will be determined by the type of item, so should you upgrade a unique or rare item to a unique type, it will have a chance to achieve a higher iLevel.
Upgrading items can be costly especially if you're upgrading a piece of equipment from the standard to the legendary track. The cost of upgrading a piece of equipment will depend on the iLevel it's built upon as well as the number of upgrade levels. Additionally, certain upgrade tracks require crests to achieve the next upgrade level.
If you're lucky the upgraded item could get to the top of its upgrade track and gain an additional effect. This will result in a significant increase in the value of the item. The bonus effect is different with each upgrade level. In general, the upgrade effect is increased a value of +3.
Based on the item's base level and its upgrade process, the iLevel for the upgraded item will change too. For example an item that has been upgraded from a unique or rare to an exceptional item is likely to gain the Enhanced Defense of the base item type.
