In cases of autism spectrum disorders with severe to profound hearing loss, cochlear implant is a therapeutic option.
To identify evidence in the scientific literature that the cochlear implant brings benefits to people with autism spectrum disorders with associated hearing loss.
Systematic review of the literature based on the criteria recommended by PRISMA. The population, intervention, comparison, outcomes, study design, PICOS strategy, was used to define the eligibility criteria. The studies that met the inclusion criteria for this second stage were included in a qualitative synthesis. Each type of study was analyzed according to the Joanna Briggs Institute's risk of bias assessment through the critical checklist for cohort studies, prevalence studies and critical criteria and case reports.
Four hundred and eighty-four articles were found in eight databases and 100 in the gray literature, mentioning the relationship between cochlear implants in patients with autism spectrum disorder and hearing loss. Twelve articles were read in full and 7 were selected for qualitative analysis in this systematic review. All seven articles were analyzed on the critical evaluation checklist. Four articles had a low risk of bias and three articles had a moderate risk of bias. In this study, were included 66 patients with autism spectrum disorder and hearing loss who received cochlear implant.
This systematic review indicates that a cochlear implant can bring benefits to autism spectrum disorder patients with associated deafness.

Studies claiming IVF outcome improvements following PGT-A, however, used highly selected patient populations or inappropriate statistical methodologies. PGT-A was never clinically validated in its ability to define a human embryo as chromosomal normal, mosaic, or aneuploid, nor certified by a regulatory body, or an authoritative professional organization. Because of a high false-positive rate, PGT-A, actually reduces live IVF birth chances for many patients. Furthermore, in recent studies the PGT-A hypothesis was demonstrated to be mistaken for biological, mathematical and technical reasons. PGT-A, therefore, should clinically only be offered within experimental study frameworks.Bacterial microcompartments (MCPs) are extremely large (100-400 nm) and diverse proteinaceous organelles that compartmentalize multistep metabolic pathways, increasing their efficiency and sequestering toxic and/or volatile intermediates. This review highlights recent studies that have expanded our understanding of the diversity, structure, function, and potential biotechnological uses of MCPs. Several new types of MCPs have been identified and characterized revealing new functions and potential new associations with human disease. Recent structural studies of MCP proteins and recombinant MCP shells have provided new insights into MCP assembly and mechanisms and raised new questions about MCP structure. We also discuss recent work on biotechnology applications that use MCP principles to develop nanobioreactors, nanocontainers, and molecular scaffolds. The distinct prion-like domains (PrLDs) of FUS and TDP-43, modulate phase transitions that result in condensates with a range of material states. These assemblies are implicated in both health and disease. In this review, we examine how sequence, structure, post-translational modifications, and RNA can affect the self-assembly of these RNA-binding proteins (RBPs). We discuss how our emerging understanding of FUS and TDP-43 liquid-liquid phase separation (LLPS) and aggregation, could be leveraged to design new therapies for neurodegenerative diseases such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), frontotemporal dementia (FTD), and limbic-predominant age-related TDP-43 encephalopathy (LATE).Intracranial hemorrhage (ICH) is a known risk of oral anticoagulation; delineating ICH attributes may provide nuanced guidance regarding atrial fibrillation management. We evaluated ICH characteristics and outcomes from Effective Anticoagulation with Factor Xa Next Generation in Atrial Fibrillation-Thrombolysis in Myocardial Infarction 48 (ENGAGE AF-TIMI 48), a randomized trial that compared two edoxaban regimens (higher-dose edoxaban regimen 60/30 mg (HDER), lower-dose edoxaban regimen 30/15 mg (LDER)) with warfarin in patients with atrial fibrillation. find more Patients who suffered ICH vs those who did not were compared and independent predictors of ICH were calculated. We also assessed ICH subtype and etiology. Of 21,105 randomized patients, 322 (1.53%) had ≥ 1 ICH for a total of 368 events. Intraparenchymal hemorrhage (HDER HR 0.52 [95% CI 0.35-0.77], LDER HR 0.22 [0.13-0.38]) and subdural hematoma (HDER HR 0.29 [0.15-0.55], LDER HR 0.26 [0.13-0.50]) were lower with both HDER and LDER vs warfarin. Subarachnoid hemorrhage frequency was similar in the HDER vs warfarin groups but lower in LDER. Compared to warfarin, edoxaban was associated with lower risk of spontaneous ICH (HDER HR 0.47 [0.31-0.69], LDER HR 0.34 [0.22-0.53]) and traumatic ICH (HDER HR 0.32 [0.17-0.61], LDER HR 0.31 [0.16-0.59]). In multivariable analysis, randomization to warfarin, increased age, and risk of falling remained independent predictors of ICH. In ENGAGE AF-TIMI 48, ICH was decreased in edoxaban-treated patients compared to warfarin-treated patients, including ICH of both spontaneous and traumatic causes. Both edoxaban regimens lowered intraparenchymal and subdural hemorrhages compared to warfarin. Patient characteristics and medical history may help guide anticoagulation management.
Cancer survivors often experience adverse physical and psychosocial effects. Fear of recurrence is a difficulty very commonly reported in post-cancer life. The primary objective of this study was to describe post-cancer supportive care needs in patients treated for breast cancer.
In this monocentric observational study, cancer survivors aged≥18years, diagnosed with breast cancer and treated in 2017 (cohort A) and in 2015 (cohort B) were administered a post-cancer needs questionnaire, and the Fear of Cancer Recurrence Inventory (severity subscale).
The study included 139 patients. Pain (51.9%), fatigue (51.9%), weight gain during treatment (35.1%), psychological difficulties (20.5%), and difficulties in marriage and sexual life (13.1%) were the complaints in the post-cancer period. There were no differences between the two cohorts. The severity subscale of the Fear of Cancer Recurrence Inventory showed 35.8% patients with a score>13. The fear of recurrence was a source of social difficulties, psychological disorders, and difficulties in marriage and sexual life.
Not only FCR, but also issues such as fatigue, pain, psychological difficulties, and difficulties in marriage and sexual life all call for a psycho-oncological follow-up. Clinical and radio-senological surveillance is essential, but it absolutely must be accompanied by a multidisciplinary follow-up, with central importance to psychological care.

To identify the valuable predictors of grade≥2 radiation pneumonitis (RP) in patient treated with radiotherapy after pneumonectomy for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC); and to construct a nomogram predicting the incidence of grade≥2 RP in such patients.
We reviewed 82 patients with NSCLC received radiotherapy after pneumonectomy from 2008 to 2018. The endpoint was grade≥2 RP. Univariate and multivariate regression analysis were conducted to evaluate significant factors of grade≥2 RP. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was used to establish optimal cutoff values and the nomogram was built to make the predictive model visualized. Descriptive analysis was performed on 5 patients with grade 3 RP.
A total of 22(26.8%) patients developed grade 2 RP and 5(6.1%) patients were grade 3 RP. V5, V10, V20, V30, MLD, PTV, and PTV/TLV were associated with the occurrence of grade≥2 RP in univariate analysis, while none of the clinical factors was significant; V5(OR,1.213;95%CI,1.099-1.339; P<0.001) and ively. In addition, patient underwent right pneumonectomy may have a lower tolerance to radiation compared to left pneumonectomy.
Undernutrition predisposes children to a greater incidence and duration of diarrhea. No review and meta-analysis have yet been conducted to assess effectiveness of probiotics and synbiotics in undernourished children.
To assess the effectiveness of probiotics and synbiotics on diarrhea in undernourished children.
Randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trials evaluating the effects of probiotics and synbiotics on diarrhea in undernourished children were searched from 1990 to May 2020. Recommendations of the Cochrane Handbook and the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) statement were followed.
The systematic review identified 15 trials with 6986 patients. The meta-analysis revealed that treatment with probiotic or synbiotic reduced significantly both the duration of diarrhea [Weighted mean difference (WMD)=-1.05 day, 95% CI (-1.98,-0.11)] and the hospital stay duration [Standard mean difference (SMD)=-2.87 days, 95% CI (-5.33,-0.42)], especially in specific patient subsets. In both groups, similar rates of vomiting and nutritional recovery were observed. No probiotics or synbiotics-related adverse effects were reported. Subgroup analyses showed that probiotic and synbiotic treatment were more effective in reducing risk of diarrhea in outpatients [Risk ratio (RR)=0.86, 95%CI (0.75-0.98)].
This meta-analysis supports the potential beneficial roles of probiotics and synbiotics on diarrhea in undernourished children.
