The surgical outcomes and complications due to surgery were compared between the groups.
The mean age of the patients in the study was 12.3 ± 8.7 years (5-32 years). There were 10 eyes in group 1, 13 eyes in group 2, and 12 eyes in group 3. Visual acuity improved significantly in each group after surgery. Ocular residual astigmatism did not differ significantly between the groups (
 = 0.51).
There were no significant differences between the three surgical approaches in the current study in terms of the postoperative results and complications.

Mental illness and emotion regulation are ontributors to HIV/STI risk, yet many HIV/STI prevention interventions do not address these factors. Project GOLD was a pilot randomized controlled trial of a psychoeducational HIV/STI prevention intervention designed to address the role of mental illness and emotion regulation in HIV/STI risk among heterosexually active Black youth aged 14-17 (N = 108). Participants were recruited from outpatient mental health treatment programs and general community settings via community partner referrals, face-to-face encounters, flyers and social media. Assessments were conducted pretest, immediate posttest, and at 3-, 6-, and 12-month follow-up. Although there were no statistically significant differences in behavior change from baseline, there were practically significant effect sizes among HIV condition participants when compared to the general health condition (e.g., fewer sexual partners at 6 months). link= Selleckchem Tacrolimus An increase in theoretical mediators (e.g., condom use negotiation beliefs) was sustained at 12 months. HIV condition participants also reported lower depressive symptom severity, with statistical significance noted at immediate post and at 3 months. The findings highlight the importance and challenges of engaging Black youth in culturally and contextually relevant, developmentally and psychologically appropriate HIV/STI prevention interventions.
The present study examined the factors associated with social isolation in Asian Americans. Three types of social isolation (social isolation from family, social isolation from friends, and overall social isolation), identified by the Lubben Social Network Scale-6, were examined with a sample of Asian Americans representing diverse ethnic groups (Chinese, Asian Indian, Korean, Vietnamese, Filipino, and other Asians) and a broad age range (18-98).
Using data from the 2015 Asian American Quality of Life Survey (
= 2609), logistic regression models examined how each type of social isolation was predicted by sociodemographic (age, gender, ethnic origin, marital status, education, and perceived financial status), health-related (chronic medical conditions and self-rated health), and immigration-related (proportion of life in the United States and English proficiency) variables.
The percentage of the sample that fell into the category of social isolation from family, social isolation from friends, and overa ways to approach them.
The study findings expand our understanding of the multiple domains of social isolation in an understudied population and emphasize the importance of developing prevention and intervention programs to foster social connectedness among Asian Americans. Our findings on risk factors and ethnic variations help identify the groups to be prioritized in intervention efforts and suggest ways to approach them.State and federal policies regarding substance use in pregnancy, specifically whether a notification to child protective services is required, continue to evolve. To inform practice, policy, and future research, we sought to synthesize and critically evaluate the existing literature regarding the association of prenatal substance exposure with child maltreatment. We conducted a comprehensive electronic search of PubMed, Web of Science, PsycInfo, CHINAL, Social Work Abstracts, Sociological Abstracts, and Social Services Abstracts. We identified 30 studies that examined the association of exposure to any/multiple substances, cocaine, alcohol, opioids, marijuana, and amphetamine/methamphetamine with child maltreatment. Overall, results indicated that substance exposed infants have an increased likelihood of child protective services involvement, maternal self-reported risk of maltreatment behaviors, hospitalizations and clinic visits for suspected maltreatment, and adolescent retrospective self-report of maltreatment compared to unexposed infants. While study results suggest an association of prenatal substance exposure with child maltreatment, there are several methodological considerations that have implications for results and interpretation, including definitions of prenatal substance exposure and maltreatment, study populations used, and potential unmeasured confounding. As each may bias study results, careful interpretation and further research are warranted to appropriately inform programs and policy.
To examine the association between social determinants of health, hypertension, and diabetes among African immigrants.
The African Immigrant Health Study was a cross-sectional study of the health of African immigrants in the Baltimore-Washington Metropolitan Area. Selleckchem Tacrolimus The outcomes of interest were self-reported diagnoses of hypertension and diabetes. Selleckchem Tacrolimus Logistic regression was used to examine the relationship between educational status, employment, income, social support, health insurance, and self-reported diagnoses of hypertension and diabetes, adjusting for age, sex, and length of stay in the U.S.
A total of 465 participants with mean (±SD) age 47 (±11.5) years were included. Sixty percent were women, 64% had a college degree or higher, 83% were employed, 67% had health insurance, and 70% were married/cohabitating. Over half (60%) of the participants had lived in the United States for ≥ 10 years, and 84% were overweight/obese. The overall prevalence of hypertension and diabetes was 32% and 13%, respectivelyd to further understand the influence of social determinants of health on hypertension and diabetes to develop health policies and interventions to improve the cardiovascular health of African immigrants. Many parameters included in the Anticoagulation and Risk Factors in Atrial Fibrillation (ATRIA) and CHA2DS2-VASc (congestive heart failure, hypertension, age ≥75 years, diabetes mellitus, stroke, vascular disease, age 65-74 years, sex category) scores also predict coronary artery disease (CAD). link2 We modified the ATRIA score (ATRIA-HSV) by adding hyperlipidemia, smoking, and vascular disease and also male sex instead of female. We evaluated whether the CHA2DS2-VASc, CHA2DS2-VASc-HS, ATRIA, and ATRIA-HSV scores predict severe CAD. Consecutive patients with coronary angiography were prospectively included. link2 A ≥50% stenosis in ≥1epicardial coronary artery (CA) was defined as severe CAD. link3 Patient with normal CA (n = 210) were defined as group 1, with 2, AUC 0.769). In conclusion, the ATRIA and ATRIA-HSV scores are simple and may be useful to predict severe CAD.This paper describes the applicability of the Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research (CFIR) to the qualitative evaluation of the implementation of the Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Brief Intervention Training Program, the B.strong Program. Interviews were conducted with 20 B.strong Program trainees and four health service managers from eight purposively sampled Indigenous primary health care services in Queensland to collect their perceptions of the B.strong Program implementation. The 26 constructs of the CFIR were used to guide data collection and analysis. Additional constructs were developed for two program implementation aspects, "quality improvement" and "cultural suitability." Findings are presented from the application of the CFIR to the evaluation of the implementation of a brief intervention training program in the Australian Indigenous context. While demonstrating the applicability of the CFIR in this evaluation, this study also highlights that it may require modification, to ensure identification of the different contextual factors that influence program implementation.
While research has shown that hospice family caregivers (HFCG) seek additional information related to patient care, pain and symptom management, and self-care, it is unknown how the use of telenovela videos for education in hospice would be received by HFCG.
To explore HFCG perceived benefits and challenges with the use of telenovelas as compared to traditional educational videos during online support group.
A mixed methods study with a concurrent triangulated design that analyzed qualitative interviews and YouTube analytics report to identify how viewers responded (number of views and their feedback) to telenovela videos as compared to traditional educational videos.
Among 39 (n = 39) HFCGs, most participants were female (80%) of White/Caucasian race, with more than high school education (85%) and they were adult children of hospice cancer patient (49%). Comparing HFCG that viewed traditional videos with HFCG that viewed telenovela videos, the telenovela video was watched more (12% longer viewing duration) and caregivers reported better content recall with informative benefits, more follow up actions and reflection about their own hospice experience.
Caregiver feedback indicated that watching the telenovela was engaging, acceptable and produced more conversations about patient care, than watching a non-telenovela format video. link3 Further research is needed to test telenovela efficacy in enhancing HFCG outcomes.

A total of 629 college students (female 189, 30.0%; age M= 18.43, SD = .90) completed the childhood trauma questionnaire (CTQ), the Connor-Davidson resilience scale (CD-RISC), and the mindful attention awareness scale (MAAS) at baseline assessment (T1), and completed the depression anxiety stress scale (DASS) three months later (T2). After controlling for age and gender, the moderated mediation analysis with longitudinal data suggested that resilience mediated the link between childhood trauma and negative emotional symptoms, and the indirect effect of childhood trauma on negative emotional symptoms was moderated by trait mindfulness. Specifically, the indirect effect was weaker among individuals with a high level of mindfulness compared to those with a low level of mindfulness. The findings suggested that trait mindfulness significantly influenced the indirect effect of childhood trauma on negative emotional symptoms via resilience. However, when the model was analyzed for males and females, respectively, the results suggested that the moderated mediating effects were only found for males, but not for females.
