Strategies involving serial RT-PCR testing must be rigorously evaluated.This work aims to study the influence of the rotation on a thermoelastic solid sphere in the context of the hyperbolic two-temperature generalized thermoelasticity theory based on the mechanical damage consideration. Therefore, a mathematical model of thermoelastic, homogenous, and isotropic solid sphere with a rotation based on the mechanical damage definition has been constructed. The governing equations have been written in the context of hyperbolic two-temperature generalized thermoelasticity theory. The bounding surface of the sphere is thermally shocked and without volumetric deformation. The singularities of the studied functions at the center of the sphere have been deleted using L'Hopital's rule. The numerical results have been represented graphically with various mechanical damage values, two-temperature parameters, and rotation parameter values. The two-temperature parameter has significant effects on all the studied functions. Damage and rotation have a major impact on deformation, displacement, stress, and stress-strain energy, while their effects on conductive and dynamical temperature rise are minimal. The thermal and mechanical waves propagate with finite speeds on the thermoelastic body in the hyperbolic two-temperature theory and the one-temperature theory (Lord-Shulman model).We present a new method for thin-film synthesis of the superconducting A15 phase of vanadium silicide with critical temperature higher than 13 K. Interdiffusion between a metallic vanadium film and the underlying silicon device layer in a silicon-on-insulator substrate, at temperatures between 650 and 750 °C, favors formation of the vanadium-rich A15 phase by limiting the supply of available silicon for the reaction. Energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction verify the stoichiometry and structure of the synthesized thin films. We measure superconducting critical currents of more than 106 amperes per square centimeter at low temperature in micron-scale bars fabricated from the material, and an upper critical magnetic field of 20 T, from which we deduce a superconducting coherence length of 4 nm, consistent with previously reported bulk values. The relatively high critical temperature of A15 vanadium silicide is an appealing property for use in silicon-compatible quantum devices and circuits.To report the efficacy and safety of large diameter scleral lenses and determine their suitability in Asian subjects with intractable ocular surface diseases. This prospective study enrolled intractable ocular surface diseases subjects with uncorrected visual acuity &gt; counting finger but ≥ 0.3 logMAR and best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) ≥ 0.3 logMAR, to fit large diameter scleral lenses for 12 weeks. 21 eyes (13 subjects) consisting ten eyes (47.6%) with persistent epithelial defects, 6 (28.6%) with graft-versus-host disease, 4 (19.0%) with Stevens-Johnson syndrome and one (4.8%) with severe dry eye were ultimately enrolled. Primary outcome measures were the visual acuity, corneal and conjunctival fluorescein staining, Ocular Surface Disease Index (OSDI), and National Eye Institute 25-Item Visual Function Questionnaire (NEI-VFQ-25). At week 12 with large diameter scleral lenses, BCVA improved from 0.77 logMAR to 0.27 logMAR (P  less then  0.001). High-grade corneal and conjunctival fluorescein staining proportion decreased from 61.90 to 14.29% and 52.38 to 9.52%, respectively (P = 0.0036 and 0.0063, respectively). OSDI and NEI-VFQ-25 improved from 67.89 to 34.69 and 51.40 to 64.48, respectively (P  less then  0.001). No adverse effects were observed. In this study, the effects of deoxygenation of the 2- and 6-hydroxy group positions on the spectinomycin actinamine ring are probed to evaluate their relationship to ribosomal binding and the antimicrobial activities of spectinomycin, semisynthetic aminomethyl spectinomycins (amSPCs), and spectinamides. To generate these analogs, an improved synthesis of 6-deoxyspectinomycin was developed using the Barton deoxygenation reaction. 6-Dehydrospectinamide was also synthesized from spectinamide 4 to evaluate the H-bond acceptor character on the C-6 position. All the synthesized analogs were tested for antibacterial activity against a panel of Gram (+) and Gram (-) pathogens, plus Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The molecular contribution of the 2- and 6-hydroxy group and the aryl functionalities of all analogs were examined by measuring inhibition of ribosomal translation and molecular dynamics experiments with MM/GBSA analysis. The results of this work indicate that the 6-hydroxy group, which is the primary target of AMEs, is a required motif for antimicrobial activity in current analogs. Removal of the 6-hydroxy group could be partially rescued by offsetting ribosomal binding contributions made by the aryl side chains found in the spectinamide and amSPCs. This study builds on the knowledge of the structure-activity relationships of spectinomycin analogs and is being used to aid the design of next-generation spectinomycins.This paper presents an experimental and modeling studies on the thermodynamic inhibition effects of the mixture of monoethlyene glycol (MEG) and glycine (Gly) on the carbon dioxide hydrate phase boundary condition. The monoethlyene glycol and glycine (11) mixture inhibition effects were investigated at concentrations of 5, 10, and 15 wt.% and pressure ranges from 2.0-4.0 MPa. The effects of the proposed mixture on the carbon dioxide hydrate phase boundary were evaluated by measuring the dissociation temperature of carbon dioxide hydrate using a T-cycle method. The synergistic effect was evaluated based on comparison with pure MEG and Gly data. The results show that 15 wt.% of MEG and Gly mixture displays the highest inhibition effect compared to the 5 and 10 wt.% mixtures, respectively. However, the synergistic effect is higher at 10 wt.%. Dickens' model was also adopted to predict the phase equilibrium data of CO2 hydrates in the presence of the mixture. The modified model successfully predicted the data within a maximum error of ± 0.52 K.A rapid amplification of algal population has a negative impact on the environment and the global economy. Gemini surfactants are considered to have a low environmental impact, therefore they seem to be a promising group of detergents which could reduce algal blooms in water systems. Furthermore, due to their emulsifying properties they could replace algaecides added to antifouling paints and decrease algae adhesion to various surfaces. In this study the toxic effect of the 12-5-12 gemini surfactant was investigated on Chlorella cells and close attention was paid to a potential mechanism of its action. Chemotaxis of osteoblast lineage cells is an essential cellular process in new bone formation. Connective tissue growth factor (CTGF) is known to exert chemotactic properties on various cells; however, details of CTGF function in the chemotaxis of osteoblast lineage cells and underlying molecular biological mechanisms have not been clarified. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the chemotactic properties of CTGF and its underlying mechanisms during active bone formation through intramembranous osteogenesis. In our mouse tensile force-induced bone formation model, preosteoblasts were aggregated at the osteogenic front of calvarial bones. CTGF was expressed at the osteogenic front, and functional inhibition of CTGF using a neutralizing antibody suppressed the aggregation of preosteoblasts. In vitro experiments using μ-slide chemotaxis chambers showed that a gradient of CTGF induced chemotaxis of preosteoblastic MC3T3-E1 cells, while a neutralizing integrin α5 antibody and a Ras inhibitor inhibited the CTGF-induced chemotaxis of MC3T3-E1 cells. To improve plant productivity in BLSS, the quality of the solar spectrum can be modified by lightweight, luminescent films. CuInS2/ZnS quantum dot (QD) films were used to down-convert ultraviolet/blue photons to red emissions centered at 600 and 660 nm, resulting in increased biomass accumulation in red romaine lettuce. All plant growth parameters, except for spectral quality, were uniform across three production environments. Lettuce grown under the 600 and 660 nm-emitting QD films respectively increased edible dry mass (13 and 9%), edible fresh mass (11% each), and total leaf area (8 and 13%) compared with under a control film containing no QDs. Spectral modifications by the luminescent QD films improved photosynthetic efficiency in lettuce and could enhance productivity in greenhouses on Earth, or in space where, further conversion is expected from greater availability of ultraviolet photons.Sympathetic activation may trigger acute coronary syndromes. In 409 black and white South Africans, brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and fibrinolytic measures were assessed at baseline. Glial cell-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF), S100 calcium-binding protein (S100B), von Willebrand factor (VWF), fibrinogen and D-dimer were assessed at baseline and 10 min after the Stroop test. Neurotrophins were regressed on hemostatic measures adjusting for demographics, comorbidities, cardiometabolic factors and health behaviors. Higher baseline BDNF was associated with greater stress-induced increase in fibrinogen (p = 0.003) and lower D-dimer increase (p = 0.016).
